  Overall review

  The Autoflo 400BP Whole House Furnace Mount works on the evaporative by-pass principle for adding moisture to the return air duct of the central heating system. A by-pass humidifier is dependent on the difference in pressure between the cold air (return) duct of the furnace and the warm air (supply) plenum.

  This variation in pressure in the Autoflo 400BP Whole House Furnace Mount results in a portion of warm air to move starting from the supply plenum and across the humidifier and finally into the return duct. At the bottom of the humidifier, a water pan is placed which serves as a reservoir. In this reservoir, the water level is automatically controlled by a float valve assembly.

  In the water pan is partially submerged a cylindrical media wheel. This wheel is partially exposed to the warm air that is flowing from the humidifier. After the activation of the furnace blower, a drive motor rotates the media wheel. The by-pass system coerces warm air through the media wheel and at the same time, evaporation of the water takes place. The air is then laden with moisture and this enters the return air duct. Here, it is mixed with the dry air that is passing through the duct. This mixture of air now has the correct moisture content to pass through the furnace.

  When all this procedure takes place correctly, it results in the gradual increase in the relative humidity inside the house.
